Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, is a premier institute of higher learning and research in the country. It has more than 40 departments/centres/units and about 420 faculty members pursuing research in many areas of science and engineering. In addition to Ph.D. programmes, specialised Masters degree programmes are also conducted.

The Centre for High Energy Physics pursues research in areas of theoretical high energy physics and phenomenology, quantum field theory, mathematical physics, interface areas between particle physics and cosmology/astrophysics and quantum computation. The present faculty of the Centre consists of B. Ananthanarayan, Biplob Bhattacherjee, Somnath Choudhary, Justin David, Prasad Hegde, Jyothsna Komaragiri, Chethan Krishnan, Rohini Godbole, Apoorva Patel, Diptiman Sen, Aninda Sinha, Sachindeo Vaidya and Sudhir Vempati.

The Institute welcomes applications from bright and motivated Indian nationals, with an established record of independent, high quality research and commitment to teaching, in all disciplines of interest to the institute in Science and Engineering. Most faculty appointments occur at the Assistant Professor position, but outstanding candidates are considered for higher positions too.

For higher positions, the prospective candidates are expected to have made outstanding contributions to the relevant area and guided doctoral students, and the salary grades are correspondingly higher.

The Institute provides a start-up research grant (typically several lakhs of rupees) and modest on-campus accommodation to new faculty members. All faculty members also receive certain perks: Rs.1 lakh professional development allowance per year, for attending national and international conferences, buying books, professional memberships etc.; Telephone/broadband bill reimbursement up to Rs.1000/month; An attractive Contributory Health Services Scheme covering faculty members and their families.
