Title : Precision Physics for Particle Colliders
Date : 6th May 2025
Time : 4:00 PM
Venue : Auditorium – New Physical Science Building
Abstract:-
The diverse and complex phenomena we observe in nature stem from physical principles acting at the level of elementary particles. Understanding these building blocks has been a long-standing pursuit. The Standard Model (SM) remains the most successful framework for describing the behaviour of all known non-gravitational particles. Yet, several open questions indicate that it is not a complete theory. While experimental techniques have advanced significantly, direct evidence for physics beyond the SM has yet to emerge. In this context, precision measurements provide an alternative approach to explore new physics indirectly by probing for small deviations from SM predictions. This pursuit relies on advancements in high-energy particle colliders and our ability to perform precise theoretical calculations within the SM. In this colloquium, we will discuss recent developments in precision theory calculations in perturbative quantum chromodynamics, and their role in collider experiments.
